What is Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing with the SmartSkin Laser?
The Smartskin Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing procedure combines CO2 fractional laser micro-ablation with increased production of collagen beneath the skin. This 20 minute procedure is done in our offices, with a topical anesthetic & it may virtually eliminate deep wrinkles, sun damage, keratoses, and poor skin texture, in approximately 20 minutes.
How does the SmartSkin Laser work?
The SmartSkin laser by Cynosure uses proprietary technology called Micro Ablative technology. The skin is treated one micro portion at a time—repeated thousands of times. Each micro column receives just enough laser energy to vaporize the aged skin while also stimulating new collagen growth in the surrounding tissue. This drastically reduces healing time while still giving a deep treatment. It can penetrate more deeply than standard laser rejuvenation, resulting in more effective collagen stimulation and skin tightening.
How long does the procedure take?
Most procedures are completed in 20-45 minutes.
Is the procedure painful?
A topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area making the procedure virtually painless. Afterward each treatment, the patient may experience a mild heat sensation similar to a sunburn, with some itchiness and dryness in the treated area.
What is the recovery period?
Since the treatment is micro-ablative, recovery time is significantly shorter than fully ablative technology. Within the first few days of treatment, the patient may experience some redness and swelling, with minimal pain. Each micro channel of ablation will quickly heal and makeup may then be applied on the treated surface, allowing the patient to return to a normal lifestyle in as little as 2-3 days.
How many treatments are needed?
During an initial consultation, our physician will be able to determine how many treatments will be needed to meet the patient’s aesthetic desired results. Outstanding results can be achieved in as little as one session, but will require a longer healing period than if a milder multiple treatment program is elected. If the patient has a busy schedule and cannot be absent from work, several lighter treatments requiring virtually no downtime, would be a fitting treatment plan. If recovery time is not an issue, fewer, more aggressive treatments maybe an option.
