What is Juvéderm Voluma™XC?
Juvéderm Voluma™ is a hyaluronic acid soft tissue filler, used to correct mid-face volume that comes with age and genetic factors. This volume loss contributes to drooping jowls, hollows beneath the eyes, and the deep folds running from cheek to mouth. The important lesson to note about facial aging is that no matter how nice your skin is maintained, volume loss will occur and cause overall sagging of the face.
The ideal youthful face is round and full at the mid-face and cheekbone area. The best way to achieve this is to restore the volume and contour. Juvéderm Voluma™ is a revolutionary product that allows us to achieve this safely, efficiently, and will a long-lasting effect.
How does it work?
Juvéderm Voluma™ is a modified version of the hyaluronic acid product, Juvederm®. This formulation provides a longer duration of action and greater volume restroration. The two aging effects that are corrected by the volume replacement are the sunken and hollow cheekbones and the deep nose-to-mouth folds. The direct volume replacement directly addresses hollowness, while the lifting provides a natural softening of the deep folds.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are made from long chains of sugars which occur naturally in your skin and which are cross-linked for support. Juvéderm Voluma is unique in that it has a special type of cross-linking called Vycross which gives it very excellent lifting capacity and also helps make Voluma last up to twice as long as current fillers (up to 24 months). Voluma is soft and smooth to inject and it can be gently shaped into desired contours when it integrates with your own natural HA and retains its shape.
Am I a good candidate for Voluma?
While theoretically anyone with facial volume loss may be a candidate for Voluma, the more dramatic results tend to be seen in patients in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s who have mild to moderate facial volume loss without significant skin laxity and sagging. When there is a lot of loose, lax, sagging skin, Voluma is usually an adjunct to surgery such as a face, neck or brow lift.
What to expect
Visible improvements are immediate and long-lasting. Most people resume normal activities immediately. Temporary bruising and sometimes slight swelling are the most common side effects.
